What Are Mesenchymal Stem Cells?
Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) are special adult stem cells found in tissues like bone marrow, fat, and umbilical cord tissue.
They have the ability to:
Transform into different types of cells (such as bone, cartilage, and fat cells)
Release powerful bioactive molecules that promote healing, reduce inflammation, and stimulate tissue repair
In cosmetics, MSCs are valued not for the cells themselves, but for the beneficial factors they naturally secrete, which can support skin regeneration, improve elasticity, and promote a more youthful appearance.
What is Stem Cell Therapy?
Stem cell therapy is a medical treatment where live stem cells are introduced into the body to repair, regenerate, or replace damaged tissues or organs.
These stem cells can develop into different types of cells — such as muscle, bone, nerve, or skin cells — and help restore function in areas affected by injury, disease, or aging.
In most medical applications (orthopedics, neurology, cardiac care), stem cell therapy involves:
- Harvesting stem cells (often from bone marrow, fat, or umbilical cord tissue)
- Processing and purifying them
- Injecting or transplanting them directly into the target area
This therapy is regenerative because the cells actively participate in tissue healing and structural repair.
What is Supernatant (Conditioned Medium)?
Supernatant — also called stem cell conditioned medium — is a cell-free solution collected from the culture of stem cells (especially Mesenchymal Stem Cells, or MSCs).
Instead of using the live cells themselves, only the secreted factors (growth factors, cytokines, extracellular vesicles, etc.) produced by the stem cells are collected.
This supernatant contains:
- Healing molecules that stimulate regeneration
- Anti-inflammatory factors
- Skin-repairing and anti-aging signals
In cosmetics and mild therapies, supernatant is preferred because it provides many of the regenerative benefits of stem cells — without the complexities, risks, or regulatory barriers associated with live cell use.
If you are a beuaty salon operator, we would recommend our Japanese stem cell conditioned medium skincare product, the Essence Pro 60, containing 60% stem cell supanatant (conditioned medium).
If you are a clinic looking for clinical-use stem cell supanatant (conditioned medium), we able to provide a variety of grades of MetamoR, a 100% stem cell supanatant (conditioned medium).
In short
Stem cell therapy uses the full, living stem cells to rebuild tissue — like planting new seeds.
Supernatant uses only the beneficial substances secreted by the cells — like using a nourishing fertilizer.
Both approaches tap into the natural healing power of stem cells, but supernatant is safer, easier, and more suited to cosmetics and non-invasive treatments.
